New Skills for 2019 (Tuesday, 20 August 2019)
So far this year has been full of learning and new experiences. I started the year by undertaking a variety of tech courses to help me to be more visible and to provide you with interesting and relevant content. From Pinterest and Instagram to building my own website, pushing this technophobe outside of her comfort zone!
In March I completed further training in Natural Lift Facial Massage. What a treatment that is! I don’t think I have ever had as many people fall asleep during their treatments as they do with this one.
A big part of my role is to help my customers to develop their ability to deal with stress and anxiety. Having experienced periods of both anxiety and depression I am keen to help others however I can. Having always been camera shy and quite a private person, this year I decided that it was time to get over myself! It’s very difficult to help people if you are shying away isn’t it. So I put on my big girl pants and starting doing group Mindfulness events, alongside a very talented Yoga instructor (aka Calm Sundays). This led us to hold a fabulous weekend retreat on Arran, a whole weekend of Yoga and Mindfulness that received brilliant feedback and saw a lot of happy and chilled out faces getting back on that ferry to Ardrossan.
I have also continued down my own path with Mindfulness training and I hope that this will one day lead me to a qualification in Mindfulness for Young People. Having spent the majority of my adult life working with teenagers, Mindfulness is a skill that I am really keen to share with them. Getting involved in Mental Health Awareness week and posting about this years topic “Be Body Kind” raised a lot of interesting points for me. Initially in the feelings that were thrown up when you stand in front of a screen and hit the record button but more importantly in the conversations that occurred off the back of those videos. Body image really is such a massive issue, that affects everyone. That connection to other people, that acknowledgement that we all have our own issues to deal with, I thought that was a really powerful thing.
Roll forward to August and I have an amazing opportunity to collaborate with a brilliant Psychotherapist to bring you a course of workshops (Body Kind), that will combine Mindfulness with Therapy Techniques to enable you to take an honest look at the things that are holding you back from being the person that you really want to be. To dismantle that negative body image and be left with something more positive, the ability to acknowledge how unique and wonderful you really are…. I cannot wait until September to get started with this. What does the rest of 2019 have in store? More learning, more development and more collaborating with talented people…and of course planning ahead for 2020 retreats.
Exciting times!
